About The Cemetery

The History

The Mott Cemetery began as a family burial plot on the homestead of Mathew Mott and wife Mary Ann Knickerbocker Mott when they experienced the loss of their newborn infant son in 1851. Their son was the first cemetery burial. Shortly thereafter, Mary Ann also passed and likewise was buried in what became known as the Mott Family Cemetery.

In 1914 family joined to file a Charter for Incorporation of the cemetery since there were additional family burials over the years. The Certificate of Incorporation was approved on May 18, 1914 and Mott Cemetery Association, Inc. was formed. Thomas Mott (son of Mathew) and his wife Mina then deeded over the cemetery grounds to the Mott Cemetery Association on February 3, 1917.

Today

Today, Mott Cemetery is open to the public. The cemetery features easy access off Southside Road, ample parking for burial services and a serene park like setting nestled nicely between the foothills of Leroy Mountain and Towanda Creek. The cemetery is managed by an elected Board of Directors as originally chartered.

The Association holds an annual meeting at the cemetery grounds. Purchasing a burial lot in the cemetery is the only requirement to becoming a member of the Association. Mott Cemetery Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization with all proceeds from lot sales, donations and endowments used only for cemetery purposes. Donations are tax deductible.find out more about donating
